At our Hot Stories networking event on the 11th of March in Cambridge, one person stood out not by being the loudest in the room, but by bringing something far more valuable - clarity, depth, and genuine support for others. Philip Spalding was recognised as the Hot Stories March Social Challenge Winner, and it is a reflection of the consistency, knowledge, and presence he brings into both Hot Stories and the Collective Advantage Network.
Philip is the Founder and Project Facilitator at the Cambridge Online Learning Community, working across educational consulting, STEM teaching, AI enablement, and digital systems. His work connects research, education, and practical business application in a way that helps people not just understand new technologies, but actually use them with purpose. What makes Philip different is not just what he knows, but how he shares it. He brings calm thinking into fast-moving conversations, asks the right questions, and supports others without hesitation.
Within our community, Philip is known as someone who consistently contributes. He shows up, he listens, and he adds value. Whether it is at Hot Stories or within the Collective Advantage Network, he is always ready to share insight, offer guidance, and help others move forward. That level of contribution is exactly what this recognition is about.
During his Hot Stories talk, Philip focused on a topic that many businesses are currently rushing into - artificial intelligence. But instead of following the usual conversation around tools and trends, he brought attention to something far more important: risk and responsibility. His message was clear. Before adopting AI, businesses need to understand why they are using it in the first place.
He spoke about the importance of conducting an AI audit before implementation, encouraging businesses to step back and assess their systems properly. This includes understanding dependencies on external providers, identifying potential risks, and considering the wider impact on business continuity.
He also referenced real-world developments where supplier relationships and government decisions have created wider implications across entire supply chains.
It was a reminder that AI is not just an opportunity, but something that needs to be approached with structure and awareness.
This perspective is exactly why Philip’s voice matters. In a space where many are moving quickly, he brings balance. Not fear, not hype, but thoughtful, informed decision-making that helps businesses build on solid ground.
