At our recent Hot Stories business networking event at The Officers’ Mess Mantle Space, Ricke Williams brought energy, humour, and a powerful reminder about something many people overlook - using your voice.
Speaking on World Voice Day, Ricke shared how his journey with podcasting began.
Not in a studio.
Not with expensive equipment.
But in his car - surrounded by jackets and duvets to create his own recording space.
What stood out wasn’t just the setup, but the commitment.
Writing scripts.
Recording episodes.
Pushing through the discomfort of hearing your own voice back. For many, that’s the biggest barrier.
But for Ricke, it became something he genuinely enjoyed.
His original podcast, Peace, Love and Prosperity, was just the beginning.
Now, he’s taken it further - launching the Cadre Rocket Podcast, where he shares his thoughts, ideas, and concepts drawn from his work and experience.
Short, focused episodes around 10 minutes long, designed to give listeners something practical, something thought-provoking, and something real.
He’s also bringing his book In Command into the conversation - breaking down its chapters and exploring the ideas behind it in a way that’s accessible and engaging.
And, in true Hot Stories style, there’s personality behind it too.
From thought leadership to light-hearted debates like the all-important question - do you dunk your biscuit or not? (for the record: custard creams, and yes, you do).
What Ricke reminded everyone in the room is this:
Your voice matters.
Not when it’s perfect.
Not when everything is polished.
But when you choose to use it.

Hot Stories is where voices like this are shared.
We run our business networking events every second Wednesday of the month in Cambridge at The Red Lion Cherry Hinton - creating a space where people can speak, be heard, and be understood.
We’re very pleased that our April events were supported by our sponsor Cooper Barnes Automotive, with thanks to Neil Hamilton-Meikle for his continued support.
The event was organised by Gemini Web Media, with photography captured by Chris Hornby.
At Hot Stories, your story doesn’t stay in the room. Each speaker’s message is recorded and shared, allowing it to continue working long after the event.
If you’re ready to use your voice and share your story - don’t miss the next event.
