Global Expertise, Local Connection – Anwarul Haque’s Story from Hot Stories Cambridge

At our recent Hot Stories networking event, we were honoured to hear from Anwarul Haque, an accomplished pharmaceutical consultant with more than 25 years of international experience. From the USA to China, from Egypt to multiple countries in Europe, Anwarul has made an indelible mark in the pharmaceutical industry. Yet, it was a deeply personal reason that brought him to our event: his son is now the landlord of our beloved venue, The Red Lion in Cherry Hinton.

This mix of global expertise and local pride is exactly what Hot Stories is all about.

From Cambridge to China and Beyond

Anwarul began by introducing himself and his professional journey. A chartered engineer with a Master’s in Engineering Management from Bristol University, UK, he has worked with some of the world’s most recognised pharmaceutical giants including GSK, Pfizer, Merck, Sanofi, Novartis, AstraZeneca, Bayer, Roche, and many more.

He spent five years consulting in the U.S., followed by work in Egypt and multiple countries in Africa and Europe. For the last 14 years, he has been based in China, working as the GMP Compliance & Validation Director at Austar. He was recognised by the Chinese government for his outstanding contribution to the country’s pharmaceutical industry.

Anwarul specialises in GMP compliance, validation, process development, and regulatory standards across a broad spectrum of pharmaceutical manufacturing areas, including aseptic processing, APIs, bio-pharmaceuticals, veterinary products, and radio pharmaceuticals.

A Call to Collaborate

Anwarul’s message to the Hot Stories community was one of opportunity.

He extended a warm invitation to UK and European pharmaceutical professionals, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs interested in exploring joint ventures with Chinese pharmaceutical companies.

His invitation wasn’t hypothetical. Anwarul had just returned from China a few weeks earlier, where he spent 15 days on two specialised projects. His expertise is current, relevant, and active—making him a valuable connector for businesses seeking reliable, high-quality partners in China’s booming pharmaceutical sector.

A Lifetime of Excellence

Beyond his current role at Austar, Anwarul has held senior positions in production, QA, engineering, and regulatory affairs.

His work spans capital projects, integrated commissioning and qualification, process validation, cleaning validation, computer systems validation (CSV), and regulatory compliance aligned with EU-GMP and US FDA cGMP standards.

He has presented at prestigious industry events including ISPE and the Parenteral Drug Association in both Europe and the U.S., and has conducted training not just for pharma companies but also for regulatory inspectors.

His credentials include being a certified Total Quality Management (TQM) facilitator, highlighting his dedication to continuous improvement and industry leadership.

Family, Community, and the Red Lion

Despite his high-level work across continents, Anwarul’s speech wasn’t just about professional achievements. He shared a heartfelt reason for attending Hot Stories: his son is now the landlord of The Red Lion in Cherry Hinton, our event's cherished location partner.

"I’m proud to be here," he said with a smile. "I’m so glad to be among you all—new and experienced business owners alike."
