At our recent Hot Stories business networking event at The Officers’ Mess Mantle Space, Alison shared a story that many people quietly relate to - the feeling of working constantly, yet knowing there must be more.
Alison, a proud partner of Utility Warehouse, opened up about her journey over the past 12 years.
At the time she started, life was full.
She was working full-time in the motor industry with Marshall Motor Group, while also running a wedding makeup business in the evenings and weekends. Supporting her mum, managing multiple responsibilities, and constantly on the go - it was a 24/7 routine.
And then came a realisation.
Approaching her late 40s, she began to question the future ahead.
Could she continue like this for another 20 years?
Was this really the path she wanted to stay on?
That moment changed everything.
Alison didn’t jump straight into something new full-time. Instead, she made a decision to start small - building something alongside everything else she was already doing.
She discovered Utility Warehouse, connected with the model, and decided to give it a try.
What followed wasn’t overnight success, but steady, consistent progress.
Working part-time around her existing commitments, Alison gradually built her business. And within five years, when redundancy came from her role at the garage, she found herself in a completely different position than she would have been before.
She had built enough residual income to give her options.
No panic.
No pressure to rush into another job.
Just a choice.
And with that came something she had been working towards - time freedom and the ability to be her own boss.
Today, Alison continues to grow her business while helping others do the same - whether that’s creating an additional income stream, building an exit plan from their current job, or simply finding a new direction.

Hot Stories is where these real, honest journeys are shared.
We run our business networking events every second Wednesday of the month in Cambridge at The Red Lion Cherry Hinton - creating a space where people can share their story, be understood, and build meaningful connections.
We’re very pleased that our April events were supported by our sponsor Cooper Barnes Automotive, with thanks to Neil Hamilton-Meikle for his continued support.
The event was organised by Gemini Web Media, with photography captured by Chris Hornby.
At Hot Stories, your story doesn’t stay in the room. Each speaker’s message is recorded and shared, allowing it to continue working for you long after the event.
If you’re ready to share your story and create your own next chapter - don’t miss the next event.
