At our latest Hot Stories Networking event in Cambridge, we were treated to more than just great business insights—we got a taste of true craft. 🍻
Alan Ridealgh, Co-Founder of Humber Doucy Brewing Company Ltd, joined us with an inspiring and flavorful talk on how he and his son turned their passion for beer into a successful brewery based near Stowmarket.
Established six years ago, Humber Doucy Brewing Co. has grown to serve farm shops, garden centres, posh bars, and even quirky local spots. But what really makes their business special? It’s the attention to taste, the family story, and the genuine passion behind every pour.
Alan brought along a selection of their core beers, including:
Friday Street – A modern IPA with citrus and grapefruit notes
Kingslayer – Their first and most traditional bitter
He reminded us that beer tasting isn’t about liking it—it’s about experiencing it. With a nod to science, he even explained how most of what we call “taste” is actually smell—and fun fact: women have about 30% more taste buds than men, which might explain why a growing percentage of their customers are women buying beer for themselves, not just as gifts.
Attendees were invited to sample mini tastings after the talk—a refreshing way to combine business networking with local craft appreciation.
