Crafting Beer & Community – Alan from Humber Doucy Brewing

At a recent Hot Stories networking event, we were joined by Alan, co-founder of Humber Doucy Brewing, a family-run brewery just north of Stowmarket that’s pouring more than just beer — they’re brewing community and collaboration.

Founded six years ago by Alan and his son, Humber Doucy Brewing survived a tough start, launching just before the pandemic hit. When COVID closed pubs across mid-Suffolk, they lost their entire pub customer base overnight — but that didn’t stop them.

Instead, Alan and the team adapted, expanding into:

  • Bottled beers with bespoke labels for businesses and events

  • Collaborations with local producers and distilleries

  • A soon-to-launch taproom experience at Finbows Yard, Finningham

From solicitors like Burkitts, to sustainability companies like Roots Agree, and even a quirky collaboration with a Mid Suffolk taxi bus — Humber Doucy’s beers now carry stories on every label.

Alan also announced the grand opening of their new taproom, shared with a local distillery and accessible via the same taxi bus that passes the brewery — a full-circle moment of community integration.

If you love independent craft brewing, local partnerships, and creative, resilient business stories — Humber Doucy Brewing is worth a visit (or a taste!).
