Hot Stories Speaker Spotlight: Chris Hornby on Why People Buy from People
At July's Hot Stories networking event in Cambridge, we were treated to an impromptu and powerful story from Chris Hornby, the event's talented photographer and founder of Chris Hornby Photography.
Though he modestly opened by saying he had no idea what he was going to say, Chris delivered a vivid and relatable reminder to every business owner in the room: people buy from people, not from shelves.
Photography with Purpose Chris isn’t just a photographer. He helps small businesses bring their brands to life by capturing genuine moments, personal stories, and real interactions—the kinds of images that help customers connect with you, not just your product.
His mission? To create more than just beautiful photos. He creates images that help your audience feel like they already know you.
A Story About Flowers (and Business Strategy) Chris shared the true story of a woman shopping for flowers online. She found two florists:
One with stunning pictures of flower arrangements and a beautiful shop.
Another with similarly beautiful flowers—but also photos of the florist herself, interacting with customers, sharing coffee, smiling with her family, and doing what she loves.
Guess who got the sale?
"People buy from people. Your services and products shouldn't just sit on a shelf. They should be alive, active, and personal."
The Real Value of Brand Photography
Chris helps business owners:
Be seen as approachable and relatable
Build emotional connections through storytelling
Share their values, not just their services
Create visual content that works across social media and websites
So yes, he takes professional photos—but what he really does is help you connect.
Work with Chris Whether you’re looking for natural brand photography, event coverage, or behind-the-scenes content, Chris is the photographer who captures your energy, your mission, and the moments that matter.
