Helping Households Save – Alison Curtis and the Power of Personal Support with Utility Warehouse

At our most recent Hot Stories networking event in Cambridge, Alison Curtis lit up the room with her warm, approachable style and powerful message. Her talk wasn’t about hard selling or pushing a pitch—it was about showing how everyday services we all use can become a doorway to saving money, building community, and creating opportunity.

Based in Haverhill, Alison is a partner with Utility Warehouse (UW), a FTSE 250 company that has been helping UK households streamline and save on essential services for over 25 years. These services include energy, broadband, mobile and insurance—the essentials that every home relies on, often without realising there are better options out there.

Alison began by inviting us all to reflect: who here pays energy bills? Broadband? Mobile? Insurance? Unsurprisingly, nearly every hand went up. And Alison’s point was instantly clear—this isn’t about an obscure niche product. This is about helping people reduce the everyday costs of living.

What Makes Utility Warehouse Different?

Alison explained how UW stands out in a competitive marketplace. Unlike comparison websites or faceless customer service lines, UW offers real people, personal support, and genuine long-term savings.

When customers join UW, they don’t just get cheaper bills. They get someone like Alison or her colleague Debbie who will sit down, have a cup of tea (or a phone call), and personally support them every step of the way.

Through a simple and effective bundling model, UW allows customers to combine multiple utility services—like broadband, mobile, and energy—to unlock extra discounts. Customers can even earn free energy by referring friends or shopping through UW's rewards program. Partners themselves can also receive free energy, adding a generous benefit to those who join the team.

Beyond Bills: Community and Care

What stood out about Alison’s speech was the human side of her business. She described how partners aren’t just account managers—they become trusted helpers in people’s lives. Instead of being bounced around call centres, UW customers speak directly to people like Alison who know their needs, can answer their questions, and genuinely care about saving them money.

Whether it's over the phone or face-to-face with a biscuit and a chat, UW's culture of connection and consistency is something Alison deeply believes in.

This approach has earned Utility Warehouse a strong national reputation, with over two decades of satisfied customers and an impressive track record of support. For Alison, it’s not just about the service—it’s about the experience. And in a world where so much is digital and distant, that makes a real difference.

A Side Hustle That Makes a Difference

Alison also highlighted UW as a fantastic opportunity for people looking to start something on the side. Whether it's for extra income or a career change, the partnership model means people can join the company, be supported in learning, and start growing their own customer base while making a real impact.

As she put it, "Would you be open to exploring something on the side—especially if the income potential was exciting?"

The beauty of UW is that it offers flexibility and purpose. It’s a business opportunity built on helping others. For Alison, that’s what keeps her going: knowing she can help families save money, feel supported, and maybe even offer them a better path forward.

Making Saving Simple

Alison’s story is a reminder that business doesn’t have to be complicated. When you provide value, build trust, and offer help where it's truly needed, people respond.

And as she told the room: if you know anyone who might like a free quote, or who could use a bit of support in managing their household bills, she’s just a cup of tea or a phone call away.
